Little Growers has been busy on all fronts this month... we have now set up our four schools for our pilot scheme with our local Co-Operative Supermarket and all being well we should have our first harvests of slad crops in around 4 weeks.  We are growing a range of fruit and veg including: strawberries, carrots, onions, chillies, peppers, courgettes, pumpkins, lettuce, rocket, peas, beans, cabbage, chives, basil, coriander and tomatoes.  The schools now have raised beds, polytunnels ranging from 10 feet long to 54 feet long, the unique and environmentally friendly AutoPot irrigation systems, feed, seeds, waterbutts and all the fittings required to get growing.  We will be working with the schools on a weekly basis to ensure the crops are healthy, teh irrigation systems working well and monitoring when the produce is ready to harvest for our market stall.  This will be held on Saturdays throughout the year at our local Co-Operative Supermarket and will be run by Little Growers staff, the students, teachers and volunteers.  The children will harvest, label and weigh their produce ready to be sold to their local community, teaching them business skills as well as horticultural know how.  Watch this space for exciting updates on the Little Growers pilot scheme throughout the summer, it is going to be a great project!
